Mega-Blog

We hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! The McFarrens had a big week, which is the reason for the blog's title. We took many pictures, so I'll fill in the details around them!

The first leg of our Turkey Adventures led us back to San Jose to visit with Grandma Suzie, Grandpa Glenn, Tia, Tio, Aunt Jen and Uncle Kurtis. Sophie is getting really good about remembering them and feeling more and more comfortable with everyone. Right now she calls Tia (Tiffany) and Tio (Dan) both TiaTio (one word) which was pretty funny. Here she is with Tia:
Since we were in town, we decided to celebrate Tif and Dan's birthdays a bit early with them. Sophie had fun helping them open their gifts:
Our trip up north reminded us how cold it is! It was definitely a shock to the system, but helped us get into the holiday spirit. Sophie had fun trying on Tia's scarf:
And Grandma and Grandpa treated Sophie to a new winter jacket. She seems to be saying "come on guys, let's go!" in this picture:
On one of the days during our visit, Tia and Grandma joined us on a trip to "The Jungle." Since it was raining most of the time we were in town, we found an indoor play area to help Sophie play off some of her energy. She got to drive a truck with Snoopy:
Here she is climbing with papa, about to jump in a bank of balls!
"Cool! Look at all the balls!"
She had a great time -- I swear she could have stayed swimming in the balls the entire day if we let her:

After 4 days in San Jose, we hit the road and drove over to Sacramento. On our way there, we stopped at the Nut Tree. I used to visit here as a kid with my family and it brought back a ton of memories. It's very different now, but there were still many of the iconic things from my childhood so I was happy to be able to experience them with Sophie. Here we are anxiously waiting for our turn on the "choo choo."
Mama and Sophie being silly with the cutouts:
Checking out the Jelly Belly store!
On Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Kris and I took Sophie and her cousin Ethan to the Railroad Museum in Old Sac. It's been years since I've been there and both Sophie and Ethan had a great time! Here I am with the two munchkins checking out the cool trains:
Ethan "driving" a steam train:
Sophie trying to push the different buttons to light up the model trains:
Play time with Thomas the Train toy tracks:
Unfortunately Wednesday night (the night before Thanksgiving) Sophie came down with yet another cold. This meant the three of us were awake at 1:30am and didn't really fall back asleep. So we were all about out of it on Thanksgiving and not feeling great. Luckily my family is very understanding and everyone did their best to keep Sophie entertained with her mind off her cold. Here she is playing with her cousins and sitting in grandma Robin's lap:
Ethan hanging out with Sophie, trying to keep her happy (though she's obviously cranky!). What a good cousin!
Sophie had a great time with her cousins. She really bonded with each of them! Here's Brendan showing off his great trampoline skills -- Sophie got a kick out of watching him do all his tricks:
Here she is trying to get the attention of the three boys -- obviously something on TV was much cooler than their baby cousin at that moment!
Grandma Robin and Grandpa Gordon were a great help to both me and my sister over the holiday. Here's a pretty typical picture of how involved they get with the kids:
On Friday we were happy to have the chance to visit with even more of my family. Some of my cousins, aunts and uncles and my grandparents came over to catch up. Sophie got to meet her second cousin, Axel again. It was fun seeing them interact since the last time they saw each other they were only about 4 months old.
Sophie was really showing us more of her independence playing with all of the other kids during this trip. We snagged this picture after her chasing her into Aidan's room -- she just wanted to see what the boys were up to!
After 7 days away from home, we spent our last day of vacation getting our Christmas Tree! Even though we're all battling a cold, we knew Sunday was the only free day we had if we want some quality time to enjoy the tree. Sophie was very excited and eager to help decorate!
"Look mama, lights!"
"I want to hang ornaments too!"
After our long trip and a day full of Christmas decorations, mama and Sophie were exhausted!
We hope you enjoyed our mega-blog :) Check back again soon -- if we all get healthy, I should have some exciting pictures next week of this weekend's Vegas marathon.
