Valentine's Day

We hope you all had a very happy Valentine's Day!  Kris and I laugh over how different Valentine's Day is for us now with the two kiddos.  We wouldn't trade it for anything.

I tried to get a couple of Valentine's photos to share, but good luck trying to get them both to smile at the same time, let alone sit still long enough for me to catch anything at all!

At first I got a good one of my handsome Jack:

Then Sophie decided she'd smile:

I'm lucky to have at least snapped this one in time -- that's the best we get!

This year I thought Sophie was old enough to make her own Valentine's card for Papa.  Since Jack is getting into everything these days, we strategically waited for his nap time before pulling out the crayons and markers. She helped decorate his card too :)

We kept things simple this year, but she really enjoyed making them so I know we'll have some fun craft time in our future!

Over the weekend we celebrated my birthday with a beautiful, relaxing family day.  That morning we took Sophie for a haircut (only her 2nd one ever!).  I found a great place by us that is very kid-friendly and everyone was so nice.  Sophie's hair dresser even taught me a few tricks, so we'll definitely be going back.  Sophie was given braids for the first time -- there were many purple flowers originally, but we left a trail like hansel & gretal because they kept falling out everywhere we went!

We also checked out her soon-to-be preschool (starting in the Fall).  We loved the place (most importantly, Sophie loved it) and we feel great knowing that is already taken care of (thanks to our friends the Klawers - if you still read this!).  Both Kris and I got a little choked up when we saw Sophie in a school environment like that -- she is growing so fast and sometimes I really wish I could hit the pause button!

For my birthday dinner, I was spoiled by papa's homemade paella (my favorite!).  I couldn't resist taking this picture of Jack while Kris was hard at work -- this is what I typically experience every time I'm in the kitchen.  Definitely makes it a bit tricky to cook, but it's pretty cute too.

Our little man is working hard to cut his first tooth (see the drool?) but still nothing yet!

And he is into everything and wanting to stand all of the time.

I think he's probably due for his first haircut on his first birthday!
