Toys and Toes

TOYS AND TOES- Sorry for the delay in posts this week -- we were having internet difficulties over the weekend!

Last week felt like a two-parter. The first part of the week was cold and rainy. We're convinced our friend Kristina brought the rainy weather with her from Glasgow! She was with us from Monday through Wednesday and we had so much fun I literally forgot to take pictures. I can't believe it! With the rainy weather, we spent most of the time relaxing, chatting and catching up. She was able to get to know Sophie and we all had a great time together. We were sad to see her leave!

The second part of the week was super hot! It literally went from 64 degrees on Wednesday to 90 degrees on Thursday! Only in LA... Unfortunately Daddy came home from work sick on Thursday. It was just a cold, but a pretty good one that lasted through most of the weekend. We were good about keeping his distance from the baby, though i know it was really hard on him.

Over the past week or so, Sophie has learned a new trick. She loves to grab her toes and, of course, shove them in her mouth! It's pretty cute because she'll help us with her diaper changes by holding her feet for us. But she is quite fascinated with her toes and we constantly have to pull them out of her mouth!

As she gets bigger, we're working with her on trying to sit on her own, trying to stand, and eventually trying to crawl. We're using her toys as motivation for everything. Here she is trying to sit with her tower of animals that her cousin Brendan passed down to her. Mostly she just gets so excited with them that she shoves her face into them in pure excitement:
She also tries to stand next to it and usually leans in to attack it. Here she's just posing for her daddy:She's also discovered her play gym from a whole new angle. She's more interested in either sitting or standing on it, rather than laying down:Crawling is still a bit of a mystery. She knows she wants to get to certain things but can't quite figure out how to lift her heavy tummy and bum to do it. She basically just sort of squirms on her belly like a snake but doesn't make much progress. We can see her trying to figure it out though so it's pretty amusing to watch. We try to put some toys just out of reach in front of her to get her to move -- one day she'll figure it out!
This week we're gearing up for our big road trip this coming weekend. We're heading up to Sacramento to see my family for my Grandpa's 75th birthday! Most of my family has yet to meet little Sophie so we're very much looking forward to the big weekend. There will be plenty of pictures - I promise not to forget this time - so stay tuned for the highlights!
