Pirates and Haircut and Zoo, Oh My!

The last few days have been pretty fun in the McFarren house.  Last week we were surprised by a generous baptism gift from the Elhihis for Jack.

He loves his Pirate Ship! Thank you Erin, Mansour and baby Jasmine!

His legs don't quite reach the floor yet but he tries to scoot around nonetheless, and is usually whining until one of us gives in and pushes him around the house:

Sophie also loves it and we've been enforcing the rule of "taking turns."  Since she is tall enough to actually "drive" it she starts taking off and driving laps around the house, with Jack chasing after her on hands and knees.  It's pretty funny.

Another exciting event this week is that we took Jack for his first haircut.  He did surprisingly well!

Here's his before picture at home, his hair was definitely long:

Here he is at the hair salon, before he really knows what he's in for:

He was excited to be riding a choo-choo train:

The woman who cuts the kids' hair is so great.  Jack was very calm at first:

"This is great mom, I get to watch Little Einsteins AND sit in a train!"

My handsome boy:

"Wait a minute, what's this buzzer thing?! Make her stop!"

"Get me out of here!"

He really did a great job until she pulled out the buzzer for some final trimming.  If only someone could invent a silent tool that did the same thing!  Poor guy.  He was a little traumatized by it, but did well, considering.  And he looks very hansome with his new haircut :)

Yesterday, we spent the afternoon at the LA Zoo.  It was Jack's first trip and our first time attempting this with both kids.  Needless to say, it's a bit more work so we barely had time to take pictures, since by the end we were each holding one of the kids so they could see the animals.  But it was a nice family day - and we had beautiful weather for it.

We packed a picnic and ate our lunch watching the elephants:

Here's my ham posing by the yellow elephant:

Jack was fascinated by the animals.  I think he'll enjoy it even more when he's a bit older.

That's all for now. Next week is papa's LA Marathon so I'm sure we'll have pictures from the big event.  Check back soon!
