Fire Trucks and a Marathon

Last week we joined some friends at one of our new fire stations, just down the street from us.  This was my first time taking the kids to a fire house to meet the firemen and look at the trucks - they had a blast!

Sophie "driving" the truck:

Riding in the back of the truck:

The other kids there were mostly older boys (around 4 years old) and I could tell that Jack was dying to be older and get into the action with them.  Poor guy was stuck in the stroller!
At the end of the visit, the firemen actually had to leave on a call so we got to see them drive away in action.  The sirens up close and personal didn't thrill Jack, but Sophie definitely got caught up in the excitement!

Yesterday was papa's 21st marathon! We are happy to report he had a much better race than the last one in October when his body seized up on him.  We are also happy to say the storm we had all weekend took a break long enough to allow us to enjoy cheering him on, though we were definitely bundled up!

And we have to include a big "thank you" to Uncle Brandon who was gracious enough to help mama wrangle the two kiddos throughout the event.  An early morning wake up and chilly temperatures did not make for happy kids, so I was grateful to have his help.

Here's papa at mile 26, in the final stretch (he's in the orange shirt):

We are so proud of him! He had his 3rd fastest marathon and finished in 3 hours and 37 minutes.  Way to go pops!

I'll finish up this blog with some silly pictures from the kids.  One of Sophie's favorite new games (that I'm pretty sure she made up) is "statue."  This gets all of us laughing pretty hard whenever she decides it's time to play it.  Basically she just says "Statue!" and strikes and holds a silly pose.  Here are some examples:

And not to be out-done...here's Jack's "statue":
Have a great week!
