Meet Sophie Grace McFarren

She's finally here!! Sophie Grace McFarren was born yesterday, May 25 at 3:59pm. Weighing in at 6lbs, 8oz, 20 3/4 inches long, she is just perfect and nice and healthy. Here is our precious baby girl:

For those of you who are curious, my labor started on Sunday at 5:15am and I spent the entire day with contractions varying from 20 to 3 minutes apart all day long, with varied intensity. needless to say, it was a long day but I knew that without consistent contractions 5 min apart for 2 hours the hospital wouldn't admit me, so I toughed it out for as long as I could. By Monday morning at 6:30am the contractions were stronger and coming 3 min apart for 2 hours so we headed to the hospital, arriving at about 8:45am. My biggest fear was that they'd turn me away, so I was very happy to discover that I was dilated to 3cm and they were admitting me. 2 hours later the doctor checked me again and I was already dilated to 7cm so we got there just in time! And I had just requested the epidural as well, so that was timed nicely too. And that medicine was a magic potion, by the way! Kris and my mom were fantastic coaches with helping me work through the pain until the epidural kicked in. Once that kicked in, I was a happy camper and things progressed even quicker. My contractions slowed a bit at that point so they also put me on pitossin (sp?) to get things moving along. Sure enough, just a couple of hours later the doctor checked me again, I was at 8cm and 100% effaced....less than an hour later I was at 10cm and pushing! It all seems like a blur to me. I was blessed with only needing to push 6 times until our little one made it into the world....it was literally only about 10 minutes and the most amazing experience.
We are blessed with a little girl who is so well behaved, with such a calm demeanor. She knows her parents, and is especially attached to her daddy. He definitely has the magic touch with her and calms her right away. All of the nurses commented on how good of a baby she is. Last night in the hospital was a long one only because she was awake most of the time and completely alert, though not very fussy. We spent the time getting to know her and learning how to nurse, but we're hoping tonight will allow us all to catch up on some lost sleep....we won't count on that though :)
We came home this afternoon and are trying to introduce Sophie to her new home. As we get settled in we will post more and more pictures. We have Grandma Robin and Grandpa Gordon helping us for the next few days and then Grandma Suzie and Grandpa Glenn will take over through the weekend. I'm sure there will be plenty more pictures to share. Well, I'm exhausted and about ready to go feed Princess Sophie, but I hope you all enjoy the pictures. Will try to post again tomorrow, though that's daddy's birthday so it might be a big day for us!

  1. These are great pictures! I love Sophie all tucked into her carseat and looking uber-comfy. Kinda makes me wish they made adult-sized versions! :)

Congrats you guys. Kristi, you look mighty composed for having given birth! Glad to see Kris has 'the touch.' Good stuff! All the best, and may she continue to be calm knowing she's had the good fortune of being born into a very loving family...

  5. She is beautiful you guys! We are so very happy for you. It really looks like all that patience that you showed over the last few weeks has paid off now. Enjoy these next few weeks with her because they blow by so quickly and you'll have an infant on your hands (instead of a newborn) very quickly.

We love you and can't wait to meet little Sophie!

  6. she is so precious! congrats! you sounded like a true champ and super star!!! way to go with making the labor sound easy :)
We can't wait to meet her. Good luck with the breastfeeding. Don't listen to any lactation consultant who says it doesn't hurt. It does. Just remember 2 things....nipple shields and breast pump to help you through the first couple of weeks! By 4-6 weeks it is painfree. They do grow so quickly so take lots of pictures and try to enjoy yourself even during those stressful times. I am truly stoked for the three of you!!!!!
