Thanks for the Advice

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE -- With Sophie closing in on 4 months, Kris and I are finally starting to feel like we're beginning to get the hang of this parenting thing. I completely realize we still have a long road ahead of us, but these past 4 months have taught us a lot. I thought I'd take a minute to thank all you parents out there for your advice. I know some people say just follow your instincts and don't listen to what everyone tells you -- "every baby is different." This is true in many ways, but there are some things that we were told that have stood out to us and we've both looked at each other and said, "yep, it's true." Here are some words of advice that we've especially appreciated:

1. "Your baby will pee, poop, puke and drool on you -- get used to it!"
We figured this out after the first day home from the hospital! And we aren't at all phased by it anymore. It's true that it's not as gross when it comes out of your own kid....well, most of the time :)

2. "Put your baby to sleep however she's most comfortable (on her back OR stomach)."

This is a touchy subject for some parents, and I'll admit that at first I was very skeptical about the stomach sleeping thing. We now balance it out so that Sophie likes to nap on her stomach and at night she sleeps on her back. That said, now that she's mastering rolling over, she finds all sorts of crazy positions to sleep in. The picture above is how I found her after her nap time yesterday. Yes, I put her to sleep horizontally and on her tummy -- but when she woke up she was cross-wise in her crib and on her back!

3. "You can never have too many burp cloths."This may have been the best piece of advice ever (thanks sis). We inherited quite a few from my nephews and went out and bought even more because we go through so many (see #1 above).

4. "Love her, love her, love her -- she'll be full grown before you know it."

Kris and I can already see how true this is, and believe me when I say, we love every minute that we get to spend with her (yes, even when she's screaming at the top of her lungs.) She seems to have already grown so much already! We're excited to see what is still to come, but we're cherishing every moment.

Thanks again to everyone for all the advice! We're still learning, so keep it comin'! :)

  1. She's getting so big - and SO CUTE! We can't wait to meet the little (I mean, chubby) girl next month. Landon had (has) huge chubby thighs like Sophie, don't you love squishing them?!
